Overview
The Southwest Fire Academy Fire Service Instructor Level I program is compliant with the NFPA 1041 Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Standard (2019). This course is designed to provide skills and teaching techniques for those who will be instructing emergency services courses. At SFA, you will be trained by excellent instructors, to become an excellent instructor. Students are required to complete pre-course work, using a package that will be electronically sent to you upon registration.
Topics include: managing basic resources and records, understanding components of a lesson plan, developing training schedules and lesson plans, completing report writing, presenting and adjusting lesson plans, administering assessments, and understanding and utilizing evaluation tools.
***Registration for the course scheduled May 10-12 is now closed. For those enrolled, the course is located at the fire hall at 3575 North Malden Road, Essex – NOT THE SFA CAMPUS LOCATION. The course times are: May 10th from 6:00-10:00pm, May 11th 8:00am-5:00pm, May 12th from 8:00am-12:30pm, then OFM Testing at 1:00pm.***
Program Components
This program requires self-study pre-course work. You will be electronically sent your pre-course work upon successful registration. When on the SFA campus, the course content includes the following topics:

Certification
Candidates successful in this program will receive a certificate of completion from Southwest Fire Academy, and will qualify to complete OFMEM testing.
Please note: OFMEM testing is included in the price of your course. If you are interested in completing OFMEM testing, please email registrations@fire-academy.ca with an attached Eligibility Letter from your fire department. This is required four weeks prior to the testing date, in order to qualify and register for testing.

Please note: if this course is not filled to 75% capacity 7 days before it is scheduled to begin, it may be cancelled. In the event of course cancellation, you will be provided adequate notice and a full refund.
Accommodations may be available upon request for the duration of your program. If you are staying for one or two nights, the flat rate for accommodations is $50 plus taxes. If you are staying for three or more nights, the fee is $100 plus taxes, total. Regardless of how long you are on campus, your fee will not exceed $100 plus taxes. This fee grants you access to your bunk, a communal kitchen, parking, and washroom/shower facilities.
