FIT TESTING
Our staff are highly trained in providing quantitative fit testing, using the PortaCount Plus: the fastest, easiest, most dependable, and accurate tool used to measure face-seal leakage.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) fit-testing requirements specify that all respirators including air purifying, air-supplied, positive pressure, powered air-purifying respirators, and SCBA that rely on a mask-to-face seal need to be checked with either quantitative or qualitative methods to determine whether the mask provides an acceptable fit to a wearer.
Ontario Section 21 Guidance note GN-4-09 recommends the following:
Fit testing of workers to ensure an effective seal will be conducted prior to initial use, and at least every 2 years; however, it is recommended that fit tests be conducted annually (per Section 7.1.3 of CSA Z94.4) or whenever work conditions necessitate a change in the type of respirator worn, with periodic review during the worker’s career to ensure proper fit.
Southwest Fire Academy’s fit testers are specifically trained and ready to visit your site to provide fit testing for your employees.

OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
Southwest Fire Academy offers firefighter, rescue, and officer training to various types of organizations, including industrial, mining, military, oil and gas, and factories. If your agency requires specialized fire and safety training, SFA can accommodate your needs. We can deliver training in-house, on-site, or online, depending on what works best for your organization. We offer training on various disciplines, and can assist your team in acquiring NFPA certification.
SFA also offers a unique opportunity for team building, even if your organization does not require specific fire-related training or certification. Allow us to teach your staff to work together in simulated scenarios, such as those involving vehicle rescue or live fire. We provide a fun day of hands-on learning and bonding for your staff, while they work together to achieve common goals. This type of training is done on the SFA campus, as we have all the resources to provide this opportunity. Reach out to us using the form on this page, and let’s discuss how SFA can help your team!
