Overview
Machinery rescue incidents require specialized skills, sound decision-making, and a strong focus on safety. This course prepares firefighters and technical rescue personnel to safely perform machinery rescue operations in accordance with NFPA 1006 (2021), Chapter 13 – Machinery Rescue Technician.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and realistic hands-on scenarios, students will develop the skills to assess incidents, stabilize machinery, access victims, and perform safe disentanglement techniques using industry-standard rescue equipment.

What You’ll Learn:
Participants will learn to:
- Size up and manage machinery rescue incidents
- Identify hazards and conduct risk assessments
- Stabilize machinery and heavy loads
- Create safe access and egress routes
- Locate and disentangle trapped victims
- Select and operate specialized rescue equipment
- Perform rescue operations safely and effectively
Training includes practical experience with heavy load stabilization, lifting airbags, metal cutting equipment, hydraulic rescue tools, hand tools, and other specialized rescue equipment.
Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Southwest Fire Academy Certificate of Completion
What to Bring
Students are required to provide their own PPE, including:
- Fire-resistant clothing or coveralls
- Work gloves
- Safety glasses
